CLASSROOM VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers play an important role in making Crow Island such a special place! If you are interested in becoming a Classroom Volunteer, your first step is to register with VolunteerSafe. 

The Winnetka Public Schools will be using Raptor VolunteerSafe to manage volunteer applications, approvals, and background screening requirements across the District in order to ensure safe engagement of volunteers on our campuses and with our students. All those interested in volunteering for the schools in some capacity during the school year (room parents, field trips, PFL, picture day, etc), must register with VolunteerSafe before they are approved to volunteer. There are three types of Classroom Volunteers. For a description on each, please see below:

Room Parents support teachers throughout the year, provide a liaison between the PTO and the parents from each class, plan social events for parents/moms, and attend in-classroom events. 

Class Photographers attend classroom events to take pictures that help create yearbook pages for each class. 

Courtyard Parents work with teachers to design and/or upkeep their classroom's courtyard space. Please note: Courtyard Parent duties may possibly fall outside of normal school hours depending on what works best for your child’s teacher. 

Classroom Volunteer sign-ups are on a first-come basis and usually happen in early September. You will be reminded about this date in the Crow Island Bulletin. In an effort to create volunteer opportunities for as many parents as possible, please kindly follow these guidelines:

• Please do not sign up to be a Room Parent for the same child for two consecutive years.
• Please only sign up for one role regardless of how many children you have at Crow Island.
